today we head out to Rhode Island, a state which passed their assault weapon ban a few yars ago. At that time, the citizens of that state were promised that the new law would only ban the sale of these items moving forward, and that “no one was coming for their guns.” Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses the quick turnaround for that state as they have now introduced H. 8073, a bill which merely adds one word to that statute, but the word is “possess.” Worse yet, it sets a date where otherwise lawful and repsonsible gun owning residents will have to dis-possess themselves of their firearms. And if they don’t…what happens next? Will Rhode Island actually go door to door to round them up? Oh, and Rhode Island, if you decide to thumb your nose at the law, understand that it will include a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison for anyone found in violation of this law.
